lovely day... mostly ;-)

today was our adoption soiree. we had everything mapped out- lastnight i cleaned the 1st floor bathroom and kitchen and c readied the outside; today, while i ran to get the cake in lake city, c would chop the veggies and prep the rest of the food. things so did not go as planned. around 9 a.m., c and the boy came upstairs and woke me up. i figured that c let me sleep in a smidge because it was my first day of summer vacation, and that it was time to get a move-on. wrong.

c told me that she could go by herself, but she wanted me to know where they were going. i was still in my sleep fog, so i asked what she was talking about. the emergency room. she was taking the boy to the emergency room. it seems as though they were playing on the floor, and c was holding him on her lap... she was holding him with one hand and went to reach for something with her other hand. at that exact moment, rhys catapulted forward and bonked his head on the coffee table. he had a little goose egg, so c called his dr., and she said that it was probably just fine, but to take him to the er to be on the safe side.

we were only at the er for a little over 2 hours (thank goodness), and the boy was laughing and cooing the whole time... well, when he wasn't nursing or napping, of course. he received a clean bill of health (weighing in at 17lbs 10 oz), and off we went. i drove c home, and the boy and i went and picked up the cake. in the rain. when we got home, we were greeted with balloons everywhere and sweet posters plastered with pics of our little family :-)
rain. oh how it rained. and then rained some more. we started the party outside under the canopy, and drifted in and out as it cleared up and then rained some more. my brother was the only brave (?) soul to venture into the pool. he was not in there long when it started to rain again. and thunder. and lightning. so back indoors we went.

we got all cozy inside and ate and laughed and chatted. of course as soon as everyone left, the sun shimmied out from behind the clouds and the rain stopped. no matter... it was still a lovely day :-)

  1. What a wonderful day! I love, love, love the cake! The little sapling is getting so big! Now that your summer has kicked into full gear we will have to make plans to meet up somewhere so I can meet the little boy. Maybe for a walk at the Peninsula? Or Asbury Woods?
