today, the court granted me legal mommyship. it was such a short event; and really, the judge just wanted to talk about rhys, not the legal stuff. my brother and c's dad were there to witness the momentous event. our poor friend, georgia, showed up as we were walking out, bless her heart. we were in and out in about 10 minutes, then a few photos, and we were on our way. outside, we took a few more photos, and as we were wrapping up, a very nice gentleman came up to us. we thought that he just wanted to pass by, but instead he told us that while he was driving by the courthouse, he saw us coming out and felt compelled to turn around and come and tell us congratulations. it turns out that 21 years ago, he and his wife adopted a son and he wanted to wish us happiness. it was a lovely moment.

to celebrate, c took me to lunch and then we met her family at the zoo. we have decided that the zoo will be our 'adoption day' tradition.

on a sad note, c's grandma passed away monday evening. her cousin's are in town, and her cousin, amy is staying with us. it's nice to spend time with her family, but the circumstances are beyond unfortunate.
lastnight, c and rhys presented me with a little giftie. first i opened up the card; it had oak leaves stamped on it and c wrote the sweetest little diddy ever in it. i love her. then i unwrapped a little box, and it was from one of my favorite little shops, glass growers gallery. inside was a pewter oak leaf pendant on a leather rope. i LOVE it! and then i turned it around and smiled. c asked what i was smiling about (i figured that she already knew what was on the back). i turned it around and showed her... there is a little acorn on the back with the word, 'beginning' etched underneath. to me, it signifies the beginning and the continuation of our journey.

JOY! :)
