dog-gone it!

today was vet day for the furry beasts. they were due for their vaccinations, and c had noticed some peculiar, uh, inhabitants in mattie's, uh, waste... so we knew what we were in store for. yes, indeed, mattie had tapeworms. the fortunate (?) thing is that they are not passed from dog-to-dog. except whatever mattie got into, pennywenny followed suit. there was no evidence of the little critters with regard to joey b. (go figure), so the two cockapoos got the deworming shot, along with their regular vaccinations.

but it gets better. each dog had their own story. allow me to tell...

mattie
the most docile of the three, mattie is extremely submissive. if she even thinks that you are raising your voice at her, she falls to the ground and rolls over onto her back. we rescued mattie when she was almost a year old, but, 3 years later, she still does this. anywho... mattie went first, and i'm not quite sure, but c said that she thinks mattie growled at the vet and his assistant. she did not take the nose drops well at all and drooled the whole time. she weighed in at just over 14lbs, and, other than the worms, she was fit as a fiddle!

pennywenny
the penster went next. pennywenny is the most loyal, even-tempered sweet dog ever. she is the first dog that has ever owned me, and she has seen me through alot of stuff. pennywenny turned 7 in january, and she is truly an amazing dog. she does not put up with the other dogs' shenanigans and she is just a rule-following-mommy-loving dog. we thought for sure that she would not have the tapeworms. wrong. she had them, too. AND that vet had the audacity to say that she had 'a few spare tires.' he also referrred to them as her 'love handles.' but all 28 lbs of penny wasn't fazed one bit. she took the shots and the poking and prodding and nose drops like the champ that she is. he also noted that she needed to brush her teeth more often. nice.

joey b.
joey is the least trustworthy of the lot. so they muzzled her. and she had to be put on the big dog scale, which totally wigged her out. she went through her whole exam with her head down. it was pretty pathetic. c and i made 'silence of the lambs' jokes the entire time. we don't think that the vet and his assistant truly appreciated our sense of humor. but she is the only one who came out wormless. HOWEVER, she is also the only one who had, uh, issues. lol, the girls behind the desk gave c a special spray to help inhibit joey's odor :-)

so there we have it. the furry beasts have made it through their yearly vet visit... it was a bit bumpy, but at least we were able to keep our sense of humor...
