schools and shots and festivals, oh my!

the boy and i started the day by visiting my school. we got to see ko (who, coincidentally the boy shares his birthday with) and a few of the other year-round staff. it was such a lovely day that we were going to go and visit mommy at work and maybe take her to lunch, but 'roar on the shore' kicked off today (a local motorcycle fundraiser for the city) and mommy decided that she wanted to sample some of the vendor's yummy wares...

sooo, pieces and i found out that my dear friend and colleague, connie, and her hubby, joe, were back from a year-long sabbatical in india. i was thrilled!!! i drove right to her house... joe was home, but connie was visiting her mom. had i known where her mom lives, i would have driven there :-) i spoke to her on the phone, but the newspaper had just arrived to interview her and joe. welcome home, mr. & mrs. w-b!!!

i quick grabbed some lunch and came home to feed the boy, when i got a phone call. the number looked vaguely familiar, but i couldn't quite put my finger on it. so i answered, and it was my director friend from the center that we were on the waiting list for. a told me that if we wanted the slot it was ours! yayy!!! funny thing is that i was going to call her and ask that if a part-time opening became available, we would take it and perhaps my brother/family would watch him the other two or three days... but the opening is for full-time, so all is taken care of :-)
now, onto the sad news of the day. the boy was in such a wonderful, sing-songy, happy-go lucky kind of mood all day long. of course he was, because today he had an appointment to get his second round of vaccinations. sooo, around 2:45, i awoke him from a snoring nap, changed him and got him settled in his car seat. we were to meet mama c there, and all go in together. we have always had to wait at least 1/2 hour before being called back. figuring this was the case, i took the boy in, signed him in and prepared to wait. we were called back immediately! c was not there yet, so i walked back really slowly and undressed him even slower. i was calling c the entire time to see where she was. we took the boy to get weighed and to have his length and head circumference measured. finally c arrived... i felt so bad, but i took a picture of chunkasaurus rex on the scale. he weighed in at 18lbs 10 oz (95th %ile), is 25" long (50th %ile) and has a head circumference of 16.5" (50th %ile). basically, our boy is short and fat. but adorable ;-)

the good dr. seemed surprised that the boy was already on solids, and surprisingly even moreso that we give him actual smooshed up food (ie., avocado). she remarked that we know our child and that she trusts that if we felt he was ready and was doing well, then so be it. also, thank goodness they had the combo shot today... and since he had his first hep b shot at birth and his second at his last visit, he only had to be pricked twice. it was still agonizing to watch him go from smiling and laughing to red-in-the-face-screaming-at-the-top-of-his-lungs crying. but it only lasted for a few moments, and all was fine.
we came home, had dinner, went and dropped off my car to be inspected in the a.m., and went to the cherry festival. a dear friend lives across the street from where the festival is held, and she offered us the use of her driveway- SCORE! she also scooped the boy up and insisted that we go and walk around for awhile while she watched him. we looked at each other, locked arms and off we went :-) lol, we were so grateful for her watching him, and we know how thrilled she was to see him (she last saw him at the hospital when he was born), but while walking around, all we could do was talk about him- and how much he would have loved to pick a duck from the pond and throw darts at balloons ;-)

for my birthday, we have decided to go to niagara falls tomorrow. i can't wait! i love love LOVE niagara falls! our tentative plans include the maid of the mist, aquarium and perhaps zoo... along with the outlets (c's idea). so we are embarking first thing in the morning for my birthday trip :-) as for my gift, c is going ahead and getting me my big grill :-) so maybe on my actual birthday we will be going grill shopping :-)

well, i should get a'packin'... the morning comes very early :-)
