minding the behind

so we just got home from the dr. for the past few days, rhys has had a pretty severe case of diaper rash on his bottom and explosive bm's. we have been trying different creams to rid him of the rash, but because he has been going #2 about 15+ times per day (yes, that is correct, which is why we have been going through a pack of diapers every 2 days), it's been difficult to clear it up. lastnight we ran to cvs around 11 p.m. to pick up the promising magical triple paste. his little bottom did look better this a.m., but the faucet just has not been slowing down... so off to the dr. we went.

first they weighed and measured him, to make sure that he isn't losing any weight. three days ago, he weighed in at 8lbs 6oz and was 19.5" long. today he weighed in at 9lbs 3 oz and was 21" long. so he isn't losing weight. yayyy!!! our boy also demonstrated his watery explosions on the dr. ha, yeah, he got her pretty good (sorry, dr. r-c!) so, the dr. asked c what meds she is taking to try and narrow down the reason behind his behind issues. she is taking her prenatals, ibuprofin and stool softeners. duh. stool softeners... even though the dr. did not think that was the issue, she suggested that c cut out all meds. and stop drinking cow's milk for awhile to see if that helps clear things up. we shall see...

oh yeah, btw... the triple paste that we bought lastnight came with a free sample of, what i thought was an extra strength diaper cream. great! we'll put that upstairs and the other tube downstairs. well, we grabbed the small tube before we left and tucked it in the diaper bag. as c and the dr. were diapering rhys up, the dr. asked if we were using that on him. we said yes quizzically. it turns out that the free sample was an alcohol-toting eczema cream. ouch! sorry, little buddy. we are still learning...
