last year, our claytopia outing was scheduled for saturday, december 11th. c was hospitalized on the 10th, so i was gearing up friday evening to take rhys alone on saturday with our pals. i remember that i was going to have him make ornaments for his sisters and something special to take to mommy in the hospital... however, early saturday morning, i received a text from c telling me that lyncoln's cord flow went into reverse and that i needed to get to the hospital stat.
i didn't realize it then, but i went into shock. and overdrive. i called the only people i could think of to call at the time, the maguires. i quickly babbled off what was going on and asked if i could drop rhys off at their house while i went to the hospital. they readily agreed, and i threw some clothes on myself and a coat on rhys, and was out the door. i don't remember the drive to their house, but i do remember that when i got to there, they were completely calm and reassuring. julie had showered, "just in case" i needed someone to go to the hospital with me. after a quick debrief of the situation, we were off... i sort of remember the drive to the hospital. i remember there not being any other cars out, thus enabling us to get to the hospital really quickly. i don't remember us going up to c's room, but, when we got up there, c was being prepped for her c-section.
i don't know how julie did it. she somehow took care of us both... hugging c and holding my hand... making us laugh, packing up the room, and making us believe that everything was going to be alright. she was our rock that day.
as c was wheeled to the or, julie and i were ushered to the post-op room, where c would go after her surgery. it was here that i got gowned up and waited for them to come and get me to witness our girls' birth. i was beside myself, but julie was there, and she made everything so okay. it was then that she shared her vision... that she just knew that everything was going to be fine, and that she couldn't wait- that in a year she could just envision c, rhys and i walking into claytopia... and c and i would each be carrying one of our girls. i needed to hear this; to believe this... because i knew the odds, and they weren't good. this isn't to say that i didn't believe in our girls- because i did... with every fiber of my being, i believed in, and loved, them. but i needed someone else to believe too. this was such a scary time. and julie made it much less scary.
today, julie maguire's dream came true. today, c, rhys and i walked into claytopia... and c and i were each carrying one of our girls... and that maguire family? yeah, they were there to envelope us with their love... like always <3
thank you for believing, friend juwie!
Absolutely beautiful, sheela! Love all of you!
