it all started with the fear of traveling to franklin's applefest with the 'screaming symphony sisters' in the backseat. fortunately i sometimes have strokes of genius, and this weekend a huge lightbulb went off over my head. we strapped a portable dvd player in the back so that thing 1 and thing 2 could have something to focus on, other than the sound of their bloodcurdling screams that literally last entire roadtrips- be it ten minutes or ten hours. chronic lung disease, my foot- these girls can scream!
it worked. other than the last half hour or so on our way home, they were pretty quiet. the backyardigans are my new bff's.
applefest was lovely. and PACKED. seriously PACKED. and we were toting around 3 wee ones- 2 of which were in the cadillac of double strollers, which made it nearly impossible to maneuver around... but, being the stroller macguyver that i think that i am, we made it through about half of the fest before we called it quits. oh, and we did take a nice long timeout and parked ourselves in the middle of the park, in the wet grass, where there was remnants of mud, that quinn just loved!
we met up with our darling friends, erin and matt, and they helped to wrangle the beasts for a bit and helped us find our way back to the traveling nursery once we got lost :-)
one thing that i am bummed out about the applefest was that i had no apple delicacies. no apple pie. no apple dumplings. no apple strudel. no apple butter. no apple cider. sigh. now i'm sure that these things were available, just not anywhere in the half of the fest that we were able to visit. the kids, however had applesauce. that we brought from home. the only other bad thing that happened was rhys' for real meltdown because he couldn't go into the princess jumper. we were going to let him go in, but the line was way looonnnggg, and the dynamic duo was on the verge of losing their minds if we didn't keep trying to move, so we had him go into a less populated jumper, which he loved, but it just wasn't the princess one. the boy loves himself some princesses.

today, we went to the peak's fall fest. we only ever visit the tie dye vendor, have some fudge and kettlecorn, and let rhys pet the animals, but we love it. however, it's alot more work with three kiddos than it is with one... there were no balloons... there was no sweet fall photo. oh we tried, but the kids had other plans. good thing they're cute!
