sometimes i wonder what we were thinking...

this is c's busy time o'year. she is in charge of 'trail of treats' for work- a safe trick or treating experience at various malls around us. because she has to attend all of them, i am at home with all of the wee ones. by myself. from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. so, i guess this is my busy time o'year, as well.

anywho, yesterday, when c finally got home, i was ready to rest. she, on the other had, thought that it would be a novel idea to go and fetch our carving pumpkins... just fetch, not carve. so, i agreed. about 30 miles later, we still had no pumpkins. we were certain that there was a little roadside pumpkin/squash/cornstalk stand somewhere along edinboro road. wrong. nothing. not a single sign of the beautiful orangeness that only a pumpkin can create. so, off to fuhrman's we went...

and they, too, disappointed us! just a few little pumpkins- nothing carveable! by this time, it was getting a bit dark and we had three kids who needed to eat, as well as a few things to pick up at the store. okay, fine. stores have pumpkins in the grocery section, right? RIGHT?!?! we were gonna have to make do with a grocery store pumpkin. except... yep, you guessed it... they only had a few measly little pumpkins! i felt as though we were part of some weird pumpkin conspiracy...

so, we did our shopping, and decided to go across town to try and find a pumpkin. it was now a matter of pride. all of a sudden, i had a brilliant idea! mason farms! why didn't we go to mason farms in the first place?! at this point, it was dark, so i parked the car (minivan), while c ran and fetched us some pumpkins. of course, mr. mindlikeasteeltrap rhys remembered that there were bouncy houses here and wanted to jump. of course. so, c pulled the mommy card and told him that they were closed because it was dark. then she ran to get the pumpkins. while she was gone, rhys and i watched a bunch of kids climb the bouncy stairs and slide down the bouncy slide. you know, because they were closed. ugh.

when we got home (finally), we, for some reason, thought that it would be a good idea to paint our small pumpkins tonight. it was 7:30. almost baby and rhys bedtimes. but paint, we did! and then we showered and jammied three kids, fed two babies (rhys ate dinner int he car), put them all to bed, and then finally sat back and relaxed.

even though it wasn't how we had planned it, it was a perfect evening <3
