fast forward to today. this morning, we got a call from the girard state police station telling us that their car seat inspector would be there today and we could go to have our car seat bases installed. if we didn't go today, we would have to wait until sometime next month when the lawrence park inspector would be there, but nobody was really sure when exactly he would be there, so we seized this opportunity. we hurried and cleaned the house (someone was looking at it today), and i rushed to clean my backseat where the carseat base would go. now, if you know me, my car is never clean. ever. even when i try to keep it clean, it just does not work. c's car is always spotless. always.
soooo, we drove to the police station, but before we got there, c called me and instructed me to take the items down from around my rearview mirror. i obliged because i didn't want to break the law or anything right in front of the police station :-) we arrived at the station where the very nice officer was explaining the spiel to another mother, who was complaining that she thought it was unnecessary for the straps to be so tight. anyhoo, both of our cars have the latch system, but not in the middle of the seat. we went back and forth, and finally decided to have him show us both ways- the latch system in the tribute and the seatbelt way in the stratus. we figured this way we would know how to properly and tightly do them both.
mazda was first. the officer put the passenger seat all the way up so that he could wedge
himself in the backseat to install the base. as he did so, what came rolling out from under the seat, but a sparkly bottle o'asti. oops. parents of the year here... and of course we wouldn't want to break the law right in front of the police station :-) we all kind of ignored it and went onto my car. he did the same thing, except a bottle o'fun did not roll out from under my seat. no, no... instead it was a disgusting mess that was revealed. oops. again.
