snuggles

in the afternoon, when c and i go to visit the girls, we usually take chicken with us. of course he is not allowed in the nicu, so c stays with him while i go and see the girls (she likes me to go first to get the dl on how things are going) and vice versa.

today, quinn's bedding was being changed and the nurse asked me if i wanted to hold her while she changed the sheets. i was beside myself with excitement and literally jumped at the chance. the nurse swaddled quinn and took her cpap mask off and handed her over to me. i melted. this was the first time i was permitted to hold her, and, although it lasted a mere few moments, i will always and forever remember this day.

i was on cloud nine as i walked out of the nicu and told c about it. she then went back, and, when she came back, she had the same goofy smile that i am sure that i had after holding quinn- she got to hold lyncoln for the very first time :-) at first she told the nurse, 'no', but quickly changed her mind. yesterday she changed half of lyncoln's diaper- all of the wires and tubes and littleness of lyncoln made her sweat, so she let the nurse finish the job up :-)

i wish that i had gotten pictures of us holding our girls for the first time, but there wasn't anyone to take them...
