when you hear of babies in the nicu, your heart breaks for them and their families. but, if you have never been there, you never really know.
you never really know how your whole world collapses when you hear a bunch of beeps and sirens coming from your baby's monitors.
you really never know how your heart leaps with joy when your baby takes her first breath on her own at two days old, and it's a cause for celebration.
you never really know how heartbreaking it is that your baby is 3 days old and you have ever ever touched her... and you don't know when you will be able to for the first time... and you are okay with that because you know just how fragile she is.
you never really never know what it's like to watch the nicu angels interact with your baby and be in total awe of their gentleness... and know that they. are. saving. your. baby's. life. right. before. your. eyes.
you really never know how sobering it is to realize that your son will not even see his sisters until they are four months old.
you never really know how odd it is to know that when your babies come home at four months old, they will be tinier than a full term newborn.
you really never know how something so small reminds you to believe in miracles every single day.
