well, it's official. mr. chicken will be getting tubes put in his little ears. he has had constant ear infections since mid-september, and the otolaryngologist explained that a "good" candidate is a child who has had 3 ear infections in 6 months... poor chicken has had at least 3 ear infection in the past 3 months, with one round being double infections :-(
another factor that made us agree to the surgery is that chicken is allergic to amoxicillan. this is a common, powerful antibiotic, and since he cannot take it, he has to rely on other antibiotics to clear up his infections... which, obviously they haven't been doing such a great job at... but the tricky part is that the dr.'s do not want him to build an immunity towards the antibiotics that he can take, because goodness forbid he comes down with some other infection and the antibiotics aren't any good because he has built up said immunity. with that said, the only other alternative is tubes.
he has been so cranky for the past few weeks... not sleeping well, pulling on and swatting at his ears, that we are hoping that this alleviates some of his discomfort.

When my daughter got tubes at 20 months it instantly and permanantly cleared up her constant ear infections. My only regret is not doing it sooner.

ReplyDeletePeeper's got her first ear infection right now, and according to the little red dots all over her body, it seems she's allergic to Amoxycillin, too. Boooo!
