national neonatal nurses day

the nicu. it's not something that people like to think about. and, quite honestly, unless you are in the situation that your baby(ies) must be there, you probably don't ever think about it. i know that i didn't. but now, it is a place that is very dear to our hearts. because of the extraordinary nicu nurses at st. vincent's, we have two little girls at home with us.

our nicu nurses always told us that once we were out of there, that the nicu would become a distant memory. they were right about a lot of things, but that, not so much. the nicu was our girls' home for exactly 13 weeks. for 13 weeks, our girls had THE BEST nurses loving and caring and protecting them. when we were unable to help them grow, those nurses stepped up and grew our babies and held us together. for them, we will be forever grateful.
