little stinker

so, after three nicu visits, lyncoln always decides that she does not like our course of action to help control her reflux, and inevitably has episodes where her heartrate decreases, her breathing becomes super shallow and she turns blue. sometimes it takes a few days, sometimes a few hours fr the episodes to reappear, but they. always. do.

the first solution was to thicken her feeds with rice cereal. that helped for maybe a day. then she was put on zantac and increased rice. that didn't help at all. after the next bout of aspiration pneumonia and blue episodes, she was put on prevacid... which seemed to help the best. until easter, of course. she decided to have four blue episodes, thus buying her another nicu admission and a trip to pittsburgh.

now that she is in pittsburgh, the kid thinks that she is on vacation and is NOT desatting and is NOT having blue episodes. quite the contrary- she is satting in the 90's and 100 and is bright-eyed and bushy-tailed! i call shenanigans!

this news is wonderful! and horrible! of course we are thrilled that she is doing well, but we KNOW that when the episodes go away, they come back... usually in the middle of the night. we take turns staying up all night watching her because her monitor doesn't always work.

so far, i believe that she has had an sonogram done (no pylorus), a head ultrasound (results pending) and observations by speech pathologists during feeds (she's a messy eater- duh!). today she is scheduled for a cookie swallow and i'm not really sure what else.

seriously, i hope that they find the underlying cause of these episodes, because, as much as we joke about having a blue baby, IT SCARES THE CRAP OUTTA US!

here she is all maxin' and relaxin' in the 'burgh:
