easter eve and other stuff...

this past week has been quite eventful. i got a call on tuesday from daycare telling me that chicken had a temp of 101... so, i went and picked his pathetic little chicken self up. his temp quickly rose to over 103, so thursday night, c and i took him to the er. we were immediately shuffled back to room 6 and just as quickly chicken was seen by the dr. said dr. wrote him out a prescription for an antibiotic, and off we went to the 24 hour pharmacy to get it filled.

the pharmacist expressed concern over the rx- saying that usually, if someone is allergic to amoxicillin, they will probably be allergic to this. also, he questioned the dosage for someone chicken's size (he is now 26 lbs and 29'' long). we got home, gave chicken half a dose of the antibiotic, and then i decided to cross reference this rx online. sure enough, each website i visited, said that this particular antibiotic should not be given to someone who is allergic to amoxicillin. soooo, i called ask-a-nurse, and the dr. who prescribed it had left and the dr. there now told us not to give it to chicken. also, the nurse with whom i spoke with was irritated that the pharmacist didn't call with his concerns. quite frankly, i was irritated with the whole lot of 'em, because we told every single person in the er about his allergies.

anywho, chicken was fine- he didn't have a reaction, but, since his temp wasn't breaking with our piggy-backing motrin and tylenol, i took him to his dr. on friday. she prescribed another antibiotic, and finally today chicken is acting more like himself... he is playing and talking, but still not eating. but, at least he is on the mend!!!

today we hit a "milestone." chicken can now climb onto the couch all by him's lonesome. he can also climb down, but he is oblivious to the fact that it isn't the brightest of ideas to throw himself backwards while standing on the couch. live and learn, mr. chicken... live and learn!

today we also bought chicken a big boy captain's bed. he won't be sleeping in it for a bit yet, but we got a really great deal on it :-)

this evening we finally colored eggs. chicken was not fond of this activity. at. all. even so, he has been a good boy all year long, and the easter bunny made his appearance here soon after chicken went to bed. because his mommies were so excited about his new bike, he actually got that last week :-)

on the talking front, his favorite words are: awesome, up, tree and mama. he is such a funny little kid.
