a few weeks or so ago, c brought the twins days festival up to me... i, of course, said, "no way!" these girls of ours are terrible on car rides. horrible. no good. very bad. you. get. the. point. like seriously, car rides are so not enjoyable when the duo activates their wonder powers, and sets out on ear piercing screaming fits.
when i picked the kids up from school on thursday, one of their infant teachers inquired about if we were going to go to twinsburg this weekend. my answer was, "not this year." she, too, has twins, and, took her children to the festival for a number of years. she encouraged me to go, telling me that it really wasn't too far, and that the kids would have a great time.
last night, i studied the festival's webpage and facebook page. then i mapquested how long it would take to get there. and then i rationalized that if we took my car and a bunch of dvd's, perhaps it wouldn't be so bad. but then i remembered that these little children would be eating breakfast and snacks in my car, and, as they can tell you, "nobody eats in the volvo!"
around ten p.m., i went and asked c if she would like to take an impromptu road trip to twinsburg. her response? "don't toy with my emotions like that! i don't have outfits picked out!" (there is a theme every year, and this year's theme is 'twice upon a time'...) so, after a few moments of discussion, our house became a whirlwind of organizing... c got snacks and clothes put together, i made iced green tea lemonade and apple juice spritzers, and put them in the refrigerator to chill... and then we finally went to bed.
i thought for sure that the kids would sleep until 6, and we would be on the road around 9-ish. wrong. some little child, i'm not sure who, began yelling to snuggle at 5:30, and then another little child or two, joined me in bed a moment later. we were all ready to go by 7, and so go we went. after stopping to gas up and grab breakfast (yes. we ate in the volvo. i'm still cringing about it.), we were off... or not. it seems as though to register, it has to be proven that siblings are indeed twins, and we left their birth certificates at home... so, we backtracked, grabbed the documents, and then we were off for real.
after a little over an hour of not-too-bad behavior, we found ourselves in twinsburg, oh. hooray! the issue was that the look twice parade was going on, so the road that we had to go on was blocked. after driving around for a smidge, we found a parking spot, and made our way to the parade. it was seriously the best parade i have ever seen. afterwards, we asked some locals where the festival was, and then we were off.
after getting stuck in traffic, and c muttering some colorful phrases to the mean lady in the car next to us, we finally made it to some church that let us park in their lot for free. we then had to figure out how to get through the woods to the festival, but we were stumped. we could hear the excitement and allure of the festival, but we just could not find it. so we did what any self-respecting lesbians would do... we bushwhacked our way through the woods, slid down a mud hill, balanced our way across stepping stones, and hopped the guardrail that was right next to the festival gates!
whew! this had better be some festival, i was thinking to myself!
we went to register, but decided not to- it was $20 to register, but we weren't participating in anything, so we just paid the entrance fee for c and i- $8, and we were all in. we then decided to rent a wagon (best. idea. ever. well, it would have been even better if we just took our own wagon) and purchase the girls official twins days shirts. after meandering around and looking at various vendors and playing on one of the playgrounds, we went to the food area, bought the kids some hot dogs, then went to the riding area. rhys jumped for a bit, and then we were off... back through the woods we went, only to be cautioned by a few nice ladies about the poison oak. uh-oh.
when we got back to the church, lyncoln, of course had to go to the bathroom. the kid has an unusual fetish with restrooms, and she spotted herself a shiny port-a-john. so, c took the other two kids to the car while i braved the porta-potty with the lu (lol, get it?!) any who, i hooked the kid up, but she wasn't going, so i got her off of the toilet and clothes put back on, only to have her scream that she wanted to go potty. so, we did the whole song and dance all over again, and, again, nothing. i was hot, it was gross standing in there, and i was ready to go. lu, on the other hand, was not. i slathered sanitizer on our hands and carried the child to the car.
we got the kids strapped in, started the car, and quinn immediately fell asleep. after a little while, it became very peaceful, as the other two followed suit.
we had a very nice time, but were very glad to get home!
