yesterday, after work, my plan was to run and pick up the 'fixin's' for our valentine's day meal and the kids' gifts for their teachers. we also had to have the kids make their valentines, because, even though we had the brilliant idea to have them do a few a night for about a week, somehow time slipped past us, and valentine's eve was upon us, with nay a valentine created. soooo, i ran and picked up the salmon, chocolates and flowers, and then dinner (because time was of the essence and we had to get some stuff done). i was a bit sad because stefanelli's was out of chocolate covered strawberries, but i had a new plan- salted caramel ice cream! when i told c of my idea, she turned it down. i was crestfallen... but, after dinner, my mom wanted me to take rhys down to get his valentines, and, on the way home, i stopped off at romolo's, where the chocolate covered strawberry gods beckoned me to the deliciousness of the cacao berry... i was so excited! as we were checking out, c called to inquire where i was. i proudly told her, only to be greeted by, "hurry up and get home!" sadness ensued. i was trying so hard...
when we got home, we gathered the kids together, and they got to work on their valentines. lync was a valentine making machine! quinn was a hot mess. and rhys was distraught that he had to write his name 19 times. after the girls were finished, we put them to bed, and rhys and i continued the name game, while c went to work to create valentine treats for the kids' classrooms.
today, i called c's work to make sure that things were in place and her coworker told me that there may be a glitch... she was going to be out of the office for a bit in the afternoon. ugh. so, i called to find out the time of the surprise, called her work back, and was reassured that all would be well. of course things can't be that easy...
the next thing i knew, c was calling me... she was on her way to pick up a vomiting quinnie. oh man. she dropped her off at my mom's, and then went to her meeting. i was still feeling okay about things... until daycare called. lync was now throwing up. good grief! about that time, my mom called and told me that q was really tossing her cookies a lot. so, i called the dr and was told to get them there asap. i left work early, picked up q, called daycare to have lu ready, and, as i was pulling into the parking lot to pick up lu, q starting ralphing again. wonderful. i took the girls to the dr, then went to pick up rhys.

after i buckled rhys in, i received a phone call from an unknown number. i answered and a guy asked if c really left work at 4 because they were running late. by this time, i was coming unravelled. i told him yes and he assured me that they would be there on time. this was around 3:35. as i was driving home, it dawned on me that i could make it to see c get her surprise. so, with two sick chicks and a little chicken in tow, i went to her work. we got there in time to see c be serenaded by a quartet... it made me smile :) we left c's work, and when we got home, rhys and lu went to wait by the door as i unbuckled q... as q and i made our way up the walkway, we were greeted by rhys letting loose. you. have. got. to. be. kidding. me.
i somehow got all three kids inside, undressed and cleaned up, only to be met by q upchucking again. grrrrr... i got everyone settled with juice, and got to work on dinner... the kids saw this, and got up on their chairs and declared that it was time for lunch. they were starving, but i'm no fool... toast and applesauce, served on heart plates was the meal of love for the trio. i had plans of heart shaped pannycakes, but their upset tummies dictated the brat diet for a few days!

c finally got home with their medicine and pedialyte... whew! we ate dinner quickly (oh so romantical), and then cuddled our darlings. our plan was to put them to bed, and then enjoy our dessert... and then i remembered... one of my former student's nana had passed away and i had planned on paying my respects this afternoon... before the curse of the upset tummies hit... so, i got dressed and went back out to pay my respects...when i got home, it was on... c picked up my yummy salted caramel ice cream as a surprise :) paired with the strawberries, it was magical... and then i got my song, serenaded by my love.
