i should be in bed right now... and, as soon as i impart the knowledge that i have gained this evening to you, i shall be sprinting up to my cozy nest.
it all started at dinner this evening. i made c and i a delicious parmesan crusted tilapia and baked potato. because the girls haven't had fish yet, and baked potatoes aren't really l & q friendly, i made them a cauliflower flour based mac and cheese and baked beans. i knew that this dinner would be a hit with them, because they have had both components before. separately. and apparently separately is the only way to go with such things...
around 6:45 p.m., lyncoln started her ritual of begging to go to bed. yes, we have it good- like clockwork, both girls are more than ready to go to bed between 7 and 7:30 p.m.. but i digress... we gave the girls their evening bottle, jammied and diapered them up, and tucked them in with a kiss on their fuzzy heads. not even twenty minutes later, lync was howling. inconsolably. so, c went up to comfort her- all to no avail. the next thing i knew, i had a screaming lynci in my arms.
we tried everything. tylenol. orajel. pepcid. diaper changing. rocking. nothing worked, people! nothing. worked. and then she burped. and tooted. and she seemed better. for all of three minutes. gas. the kid had a hurty, gassy tummy. so, there was only one thing for me to do- brave the elements and run to the store at 9:30 p.m.
the first store i went to, which is supposedly supposed to be a superstore, did NOT have infant gas drops. none. zero. zilch. i checked the baby section, the children's meds section, the baby needs section, the adult gas meds section- NOTHING. so, off to wegmans's i trotted. i first searched the baby section. a big fat nothing. then the adult gas meds section, and, as if angels themselves shone a beautiful golden beam onto them, i found some infant gas drops. HOORAY! so, i shelled out the 12 bucks for this teeny tiny bottle of liquid gold, and raced home to my hurty baby...
as c held our cherub in her arms, i pried open her mouth and administered the relief that she needed... and, so far, so good (fingers crossed). then, i got to thinking... i packed them the same thing for lunch tomorrow that they had for dinner tonight... SCREECH... like a lightning bolt, i unpacked their lunches, and packed them a nice bland turkey and carrot ravioli and buttered bread.
the moral of the story? do NOT allow your darlings too many gas-inducing foods at once. they will hurt. their hurting will make you hurt. and then you will have to leave your warm house to hunt for the elixir that will hopefully make them all better.
lesson learned, people... lesson learned.
