july backtrack

i can't believe that it's already august! where did july go?! i guess that we were so busy having fun that it just slipped right past us!

soooo, to recap:

4th of july:
we had such a grand time in a low key manner. we hauled the kidlets off to the parade, came home, napped, and then our pals, the maguires, came over for a good ol' fashioned fourth of july picnic- complete with grilling, swimming, s'mores and c's 'special' fireworks! let me tell ya, a super thing about having supermoms as friends is that there are multiple hands to hold multiple beebees (thank you, j & k- we are still relishing from that break)! it was determined that k is the 2011 s'more champion, but i think that a do-over is called for (hint, hint).

my birthday:
for my birthday, c made my absolute favorite homemade carrot cake. seriously, that's all that i can remember about that day... and, i would post a picture, but there was a party in my tummy before i could snap one! seriously, my loves made me feel like a princess... it started with rhys crawling into bed with me and whispering, "happy butt-day, mama!" and ended with him singing the birthday song. of course, the middle of the day was squished with sweet baby smiles and snuggles! perfect.

gone wireless:
after being hooked up to tubes and wires and monitors for 7 months, july 2011 marked the moment when our girls went wireless! as exciting as it sounds (and it is exciting), it was scary! when we took the ladies in for their checkup, the good dr. stated that we needed to think about getting them off of their monitors (yeah, right). well, the bits ended up getting bigger and began kicking their leads off all. night. long. so, we began experimenting. it started with keeping them off of their monitors during awake times, and then during nap times (where they were in plain view).when vantage came to download their information, i asked how we transition them off of the monitors. she told me that usually their dr. writes an rx that explains that they only have to wear them during sleeping and eating. so, i called the office on a wednesday to ask about it, and the receptionist called me back that friday (i assume that he had to review the info from the downloads) and told me that they could be discharged from the monitors altogether! i was terrified! so, we slowly weaned them down... and set up their angel care monitors :-) our sweet girls now have no strings to tie them down! i think that the strangest thing to get used to is that they can now wear zip up jammies (with monitors, snaps are needed to thread the cords through).

school:
we love our daycare. seriously love. so, of course when we found out that we would be having twins, we automatically called to put them on the waiting list. the thing about our daycare is that it is associated with the hospital that the girls were born at, so employees of the hospital have first dibs on highly coveted spots. well, i got the call that there would be 2 full time openings in the beginning of july. we didn't need them until the fall when i go back to school, but if we didn't take them, we would probably have to wait until the end of the year to get them in- and then it wasn't guaranteed that there would be two openings. so, take them we did! the girls LOVE their teachers. lynci gives cidney googly eyes and silly smiles, and quinn just basks in all that there is to play with! we are so incredibly fortunate that we have found a place to care for our joys when we are working!

dpi:
although we never really buy anything at our local festivals and fairs, we love going to them... okay, we love the fact that carmen's cookies are peddling their yummy wares at each venue :-) other than ribfest (carmen's isn't at this one), discover presque isle is the only other event that we have made it to this year so far (shuffling around 3 kidlets is hard!). it was a nice stroll looking at all of the vendors and, of course, sampling c's favorite cookies and kettle corn. rhys made a bracelet, we had dinner, and then went home. quick and fun!

waldameer!:
we finally got around (or got brave enough) to take the kids to waldameer for a few hours. ride-a-rama on rhys' wrist, and we were off to kiddieland. of course he was hesitant about the rides at first, but in no time was a riding fool! we topped the evening off with the longest-wait-for-the-train-ride-ever (okay, it just seemed like it with three whiny kiddos)and went home and snuggled in bed :-)

peas:
even though the girls are chronologically 7 months old, their adjusted age is 4 months- which means that developmentally they are around the 4 month mark. since they were preemies, usually solids are on hold until 7-9 months actual, 4-6 months adjusted. since they have been on solids almost their entire 7 months (thickened feeds with cereal), we thought, "why not?" so we tried peas. lync seemed to enjoy them. quinn, not so much. they don't get peas everyday- more like a few tastes every other day- just to get used to using a spoon and such.

blueberry picking:
unless it is in the form of a mash, rhys has decided to boycot any and all fruits and vegetables. well, except for bananas. the kid will eat an occasional banana. he will gobble up fruits and veggies if they are in a pouch (even the pea, broccoli and spinach mix). so, we thought that maybe if he had a hand in gathering his own food (we thought that maybe his primal urge to gather and eat would kick in), he would be more apt to eat whole fruits and veggies. so blueberry picking we went. he. loved. it. he even ate a blueberry. one blueberry. we sent some berries to his class for them to enjoy, and i have been packing them in his lunch, and his note home always says that he ate them. i'm not sure if i'm buying it.

i know that i am missing bunches of july moments, but these are a few of the highlights... and now, onto august :-)
