up to's

back in the day, when school was over for the year, our summer would be wide open for day trips and overnighters, as far as we were willing to drive with the chicken. now that the chicken is accompanied by the duo, not. so. much. but i was itching for a wittle getaway- just a tiny one... so, thursday evening, i booked a hotel in buffalo. we figured that we would go to niagara falls, the buffalo zoo, the aquarium and the outlets. c went into overdrive and packed, packed packed!

fast forward to friday morning. c was sick. really sick. sick enough that she actually left work and attempted to nap in her car. she came home around noon and napped some more. i figured that our trip was cancelled, and i was okay with that. but, after her nap, she nudged me to get a'move-on, so we got rhys up from his nap, loaded the girls and their meals into the van, and off we went.

i could tell that she still wasn't feeling good at all. i mean, she was green. but she didn;t want me to be disappointed, even though i already told it that it was okay. anywho, she rested while i drove. we went to the outlets first, bought nothing, then headed to the falls. it was a quick trip. we walked along the river on the american side, snapped a couple of pics, and walked back. after a quick trip for dinner, we went to the hotel, put rhys to bed, fed the girls then went to bed ourselves.

the next morning, c was 100% better. we had a grand time at the zoo, went to an adorable consignment shop and then headed home. other than about 45 minutes of continuous screaming by the girls on the way to buffalo, the trip went rather smoothly. will we do it again? yes, but not anytime too, too soon!

in other happenings, rhys has become quite fond of the sprinkler. he has dubbed it "rain showas!" lastnight we thought that we would be clever and soaped him up before he ran through the water. of course he wasn't as gung ho about it! but after some prodding, he got a real showa!

the girls have been working really hard with their tummy time and smiling. lynci rolled from her back to her tummy once and quinnie is pretty much a pro at rolling from her tummy to her back! last week, quaker steak & lube's bike night was a fundraiser for the children's miracle network, and our nicu nurses were the hostesses with the mostesses... so, we went and paid them a little visit! it was so fun seeing our heroes again!

finally, the last note of worthy i've got is that rhys is sleeping in him's big boy bed! we weren't going to transition him from his (now quinn's) crib until he started climbing out of it, but, since he doesn't even attempt it, we thought that we would just give it a try. he loves it! and, he doesn't get out of his bed in the morning. i think that he thinks it's a lower crib and just waits for us to go and fetch him.
