an emotional day

as the whole world (as we know it) now knows, same-sex marriage is now legal in pa. from right before 2 p.m., i constantly checked facebook to see if a ruling had been issued. when i finally saw that the ban had been struck down, I couldn't stop the tears. they just flowed. and flowed. and flowed some more. it was dismissal time, and, as i ran into my colleagues, i couldn't find my voice, so i just showed them the ruling. they got it. and they celebrated with me.

there was one inquiring mind. she wanted to know what the big deal was... and that she wouldn't give it a second thought... until i explained to her about federal benefits and financial benefits and our children seeing that their parents are just as important as any other parents... i couldn't blame her for her thoughts... after all, she has never had to think about the "what if's" or meticulously prepare for the future. then she got it. and i cried some more.

as we were basking in the beautiful light of equality, we also shed some tears of melancholy. today was kindergarten registration for our boy. oh boy, where has the time gone?!?!

today has truly been a memorable day!
